May 11, 2012 DHS, Mr. Smalls sponsor “We Rock Workshop” concert to benefit Allegheny County Music Festival Fund
On Thursday May 24, 2012, the Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) and Creative.Life.Support, the non-profit arm of Mr. Smalls Funhouse, are sponsoring a concert at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale to raise funds for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund. Youth involved with DHS, including current and former foster youth, will show off musical abilities honed through their participation in the “We Rock Workshop.”
April 13, 2012 Public Dress Sale Slated to Benefit Project Prom
The Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) will hold a sale of formal dresses on Saturday, April 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Project Prom Shop, located on the third floor of Century III Mall. The public will have the opportunity to purchase formalwear and accessories at a fraction of the retail price and help support Project Prom, as all proceeds will go towards the purchase of tuxedo gift cards and dresses in hard-to-find sizes.
April 9, 2012 DHS KEYS Service Corps – Spring Clean Up in Highland Park
On Saturday, April 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Allegheny County Department of Human Services KEYS (Knowledge to Empower Youth to Success) Service Corps will gather to complete a beautification project at Highland Park. Approximately 150 DHS KEYS Service Corps members and volunteers will spend the day planting trees, removing invasive species and picking up trash.
March 27, 2012 LIHEAP Crisis Grant Extended Two Weeks
The Allegheny County Department of Human Services today announced that the deadline to apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Crisis grant has been extended to April 13 for income eligible utility customers who have termination notices with a mailed date of February 1 or later. This is an extension of the original closing date of March 30.
March 15, 2012 Fitzgerald Announces Additional $3.8 Million Grant to Assist in Reducing Chronic Homelessness
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) awarded a $3.8 million Continuum of Care grant to the County’s Department of Human Services (DHS) to fund five new projects and 92 units of housing to further combat homelessness.
February 7, 2012 LIHEAP Crisis Grants Expanded to Include Consumers with Utility Termination Notices Dated February 1, 2012 or Later
The Allegheny County Department of Human Services today announced that Pennsylvania Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Crisis grants are now available for income eligible utility customers who have termination notices with a mailed date of February 1, 2012 or later. Additionally, households that already received a crisis payment for program year 2011-2012may be eligible to receive a second crisis payment, which must in most cases be applied to a second utility vendor and is subject to the maximum and minimum crisis amounts. In total, the maximum LIHEAP Crisis grant may not exceed $300, and the minimum grant cannot be issued for less than $25.
February 6, 2012 Project Prom 2012 for Young Ladies and Gentlemen
Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) Project Prom Shop will make available free prom dresses to eligible high school girls who find the cost of a prom outfit is not within their family’s budget. The gown giveaway will take place at Century III Mall Tuesday, March 6 through Friday, March 9 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
January 3, 2012 LIHEAP Crisis Program Opens Today
Allegheny County Department of Human Services today announced the Pennsylvania Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Crisis Program Center is open at the downtown location. The Natrona Heights location will open Jan. 9. The tentative closing date for both sites is March 30, 2012. However, the program may be extended or shortened depending upon the availability of federal funds.
